Main attractions

Jersey War Tunnels or the Underground Hospital is no ordinary attraction; it is a spine-chilling reminder of a dark time in Jersey’s history. During World War II, the Crown left Jersey defenceless and the Island became occupied by German forces. Jersey War Tunnels are a product of five long years of Occupation; they bore witness to the particular cruelty of the Nazi regime. Dug deep into the hillside by forced and slave workers from nations across Europe, the extraordinary tunnels run over 1km in length. They now contain an underground collection of thought provoking galleries that detail Jersey’s occupation history from resistance, through to starvation, and then eventual liberation. You’ll never believe this happened on British soil. See it, feel it, believe it, at Jersey War Tunnels

Durrell Wildlife Park Gerald Durrell died on the 30th of January 1995. Today, Durrell Wildlife Conservation Trust stands as the direct continuation of the Trust he created in 1963 and its mission; saving species from extinction. The name was changed from ‘The Jersey Wildlife Preservation Trust’ in 1999, in our founder’s honour. We continue to make a difference through pioneering work and sheer determination, and share his conviction that our work is absolutely vital to the wellbeing of the planet.

Elizabeth Castle Built on a rocky islet in St Helier, Elizabeth Castle defended Jersey for more than 400 years. The castle is accessible at low tide by foot or the castle ferry.

Mont Orgueil Castle History comes to life at Mont Orgueil Castle, which for 600 years protected Jersey against French invasion. Explore the network of staircases, towers and rooms to discover hidden treasures. Please note, the main gate access to the castle may be closed due to building work. There is alternative access from the footpath along Gorey Pier.

La Corbiere Lighthouse The coast of Jersey’s south western corner is rather rugged and can be extremely dangerous for shipping, although it wasn’t until 1874 that Corbière lighthouse was first lit. The lighthouse was the first in the British Isles to be built of reinforced concrete and its light is visible for 18 miles (29 kms) in clear weather. The lighthouse is connected to the shore by a causeway that is covered at high tide. The rush of the tide around this part of the coast can be very dangerous but it is a beautiful place, whether in broad daylight or at sunset.

La Mare Wine Estate is a working 25 acre estate of vineyards, orchards and beautiful grounds. Established in 1972, La Mare has grown from a small vineyard into a busy tourism attraction, wedding and corporate venue as well as producing a vast array of local products.

La Hougue Bie Museum delivers a truly memorable experience that is at once thought provoking and peaceful. The site features one of Europe's finest passage graves where you can learn about life in Jersey's Neolithic community 6,000 years ago. A medieval chapel sits on top of the prehistoric mound and dolmen dominating this tranquil and spiritual site. Unlike many other dolmens you can stand inside the chamber of the passage grave and feel the heart of this place of worship.

Maritime Museum Discover Jersey's maritime past in this uniquely interactive museum where you can see, touch, hear and even smell the exhibits. Jersey’s landscape and history have been shaped by the sea and this museum tells the story of the Island’s unique maritime environment and rich seafaring past. Set by the historic harbour of St Helier, the Maritime Museum is all about seafaring, navigation and the elements, told through the stories of Jersey people.

Cliff walks

With 48 miles of stunning coastline walking is definitely one of the main things to do in Jersey. The rugged terrain on the north coast offers exhilarating walking where the flatter south of the island offers you that leisurely stroll, you can walk St Helier in about 45 minutes from La Haule Manor along the cycle path. There are a large variety of eateries and cafes to stop off at along the whole coastline.

The old railway walk can be picked up from St Aubins village and would head South West, slightly inland behind St Brelades Bay to Corbiere Lighthouse. You could take that extra couple of hours and follow the coast from St Aubin taking in the stunning bays and views from Noirmont Point, Portelet, Quaisne, St Brelades, Beauport, and Corbière.

On the North West of the Island there are stunning coastal walks around L'Etacquerel, Les Landes, Plemont Gronez, and around to Greve De Lecq. The number 12 and 9 bus that stops outside our front door will cater for all the above walks.

Heading to the North East of the Island walk around from Gorey to the beautiful bays of Anne Port, Fliquet, St Catherines Breakwater, Rozel and Bouley Bay, all can be serviced form the number 1 or 3 bus from St Helier.

The cliffs and headlands are also home to various species of birds. These include the puffin, razorbill, fulmar, petrel and common tern in summer, and the redstart, yellow wagtail, hoopoe and wheatear in autumn.
